Life Line FAQ
Life Line Assistance Program:
The state of Florida offers a life line assistance program helping make telephone service affordable to low-income customers. This program provides for a 10 percent discount on electric rates and a reduction of monthly telephone bills (Lifeline) and telephone installation charges (Link-up) to all qualified low-income customers.
How much can I save on my phone bill?
You could save up to $13.50 per month for local service. This benefit applies to a customer's local primary single line connection at the customer's principal place of residence.
How do I know if I'm eligible?
You're eligible for Lifeline if you participate in any of the following programs:
- Temporary Cash Assistance (TCA)
- Food Stamps
- Medicaid
- Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP)
- Supplemental Security Income (SSI)
- Federal Public Housing Assistance (Section 8)
- National School Lunch (NSL) Program's free lunch programs
If you receive state or federal help you can apply for Lifeline discounts by contacting your local telephone company. Or you can go to My Florida Public Service Commission to download and fill out the eligibility form. If you participate in any of the programs mentioned above, you will be asked to provide proof of your eligibility by providing documentation verifying your participation. Lifeline benefits will become effective following proof of eligibility.
Link-Up:
Link-Up helps households pay the installation charge for telephone service. Link-up will assist in the cost of installing local phone service in your home, but Link-up does not cover any additional cost such as inside wiring or other customer request.
How much will I save by using Link-Up?
Link-Up will pay 50% of primary single line connection installation charges or $30, whichever is less, at the customer's principal place of residence.
How do I know if I am eligible?
If you qualify for Lifeline you also qualify for Link-Up. To apply for Link-Up you will follow the same application process as Lifeline and the same proof of eligibility as Lifeline.
